Functional Movement:
Services at the Grange
Human movement is much more than exercise.
Human bodies evolved with movement – it was required to survive, to eat, to create shelter. Today we regard movement as something we do to offset our eating and sitting habits, so we call it exercise.
Moving all day, in varying positions and durations, is required for our bodies to function optimally. In my classes, I teach functional movements that will help you regain lost ranges of motion. These will also address muscular imbalances arising from repetitive movement patterns, or sedentary patterns that no longer serve your needs.
Restorative work has always been my specialty. Over the years I've trained with specialists in biomechanics, yoga, functional movement, foot health, gait and core function. I have a deep toolbox of skills I’ve used to work with clients from ages 6 to 93, clients with major medical issues, elite athletes, opera singers, quilters, hikers, skiers, dancers, gardeners and pretty much everything in between.
I teach people to create lasting change in themselves by restoring lost ranges of motion, restoring healthy movement, and restoring hope.
You already know how to move - let me help you move better.

What to expect: All classes are conducted in bare or stocking feet. No shoes allowed past the entry area. Mats and props are provided by the studio, but if you prefer to bring your own mat, that’s fine too.
All Mat Classes are centered around the needs of the clients present and the difficulty of the class will reflect the abilities of the participants.
Ladder Classes are limited to 4 people. These classes will be more challenging than mat classes and are resistance based exercises.
More classes will be added throughout the year based on client feedback.
Class Descriptions
All classes are education-based. I aim to educate clients on the why of exercises and strive to tailor classes to support real life and the activities we like to pursue such as hiking, biking, gardening, etc.
Functional Movement is geared towards regaining range of motion or gaining strength in weaker ranges; a variety of props may be added to a class. Focus is usually around shoulders/core/hips to better enjoy an active lifestyle.
Functional Release and Restore is focused on using tools for myofascial release and then using body weight exercises to load these areas.
Functional Core will be just as it sounds, focused on core work, including breath and proper integration of breath and movement.
Functional Restoration may feature elements of release work and lots of gentle movement and breath awareness.
Ladder classes are resistance equipment classes, which may incorporate elements of mat/bodyweight exercises, weights or other props.
Workshops
April is National Foot Health Awareness month and I will be hosting a Foot workshop on Saturday April 4. More information will follow as we get closer to the date.
I will be hosting a 4 part
Floor to Core workshop in May, dates TBD.
